Two Telford & Wrekin Council teams are joining forces to raise money for charity by doing the 50 mile Telford 50 walk in memory of a colleague that passed away suddenly last year.

Seven members of staff from the council’s Highways, Transport and Engineering team and nine members of staff from the Building Innovation Telford (BiT) team are doing the walk on September 1 to pay tribute to Steve Gorman, a colleague from the Highways team.

They are raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the British Heart Foundation. The walk starts at 5.30am and will last approximately 18 hours.

The Telford 50 trail ascends approximately 2,000 metres in total, which is the equivalent of climbing Mount Snowdon twice.

Dom Proud, the council’s Service Delivery Manager for Highways, Transport and Engineering, said: “The team was deeply affected by Steve’s very sudden passing and we all felt we wanted to do something to pay tribute to him.

“Hopefully we will raise a lot of money for the chosen charities. Walking 50 miles in the same day is a big challenge but something we all wanted to do.”
