New footbridge at Wesley Brook

Work to replace the Wesley Brook footbridge which links Everglade Road and Priorslee Primary Academy is due to start on Thursday 2 August.

The new footbridge will be more durable than the existing bridge, with soft touch handrails and an anti-slip finish on the decked walkway.  There will be no access over the bridge during the works, which are expected to take two days.

A stretch of the footpath leading from the bridge to the primary school will also be resurfaced, with all of the works completed by 10 August.

The improvements are part of the Council’s Pride in Our Community 2018/19 work programme, which will see £7.5m invested in around 340 improvement schemes across the borough.

Councillor Shaun Davies, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council and cabinet member for the pride programme, said: “This is a popular pedestrian route to school for local families, but the bridge is getting on a bit now.  The decked footway also gets very slippery, particularly when the leaves fall in winter.

“We’ve done a number of temporary fixes over the years, but it really isn’t economical to keep doing this.  The replacement bridge will hopefully serve the local community for many years to come.”

Details of the improvements happening around the borough during 2018/19 are available on the Council’s website.
