Homes England in Land Deal visit

Homes England Deputy Chief Executive Tom Walker has visited Telford to tour a range of sites that have benefited from Telford’s unique Land Deal.

The Land Deal has delivered more than £25m of development land sales and is set to create nearly 1,000 jobs and over 600 new homes.

Telford & Wrekin Council entered into the 10 year agreement with Homes England (formerly the Homes and Communities Agency) back in March 2016, with support from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership.

Mr Walker was among a contingent of five Homes England representatives who attended a meeting of the Telford Land Deal Board before embarking on a  tour of a number of commercial and residential sites across Telford and Wrekin.

The visit has come about after Telford & Wrekin Council leader Shaun Davies invited Homes England to send senior staff to come and see examples of the huge success that has been created by the Land Deal.

The party was welcomed to Telford by Councillor Davies and Land Deal Board chairman Graham Wynn, the chairman of the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership.

Sites that the Homes England party  visited included Nuplace’s new development at Snedshill, T54 Technology Park, Lightmoor, Lawley, Shawbirch and Hortonwood West.

Councillor Davies said: “I am delighted that senior officers from our Land Deal partners Homes England came to Telford to see the various sites that have been brought forward first hand.

“The Land Deal has played a crucial role in the borough’s economic success and the investment that the council is making in driving growth through commercial activity and enhanced infrastructure.

“The deal, alongside our Enterprise Telford business pledge and our ability to provide land and build and lease bespoke properties, continues to drive a high number of new enquiries.”
