The carnival which leaves Addenbrooke House on Ironmasters Way at 12.30pm will be a feast for the senses with a parade of colourful large scale extravagant hand-made structures which will be walked, pushed or pulled on the roads around town centre and brought to life with music, dance and carnival costumes.

Inspired by everything from Telford’s past and present in this Telford’s 50th anniversary year,  this year’s carnival is brought to you by the people of Telford themselves.

Volunteers, community groups and organisations from around the borough have been supported by the Council to get involved in the procession, with professional carnival makers, choreographers and a mass-movement director to create the structures, costumes, music and dances.

Telford’s ever popular carnival procession will create a fantastic atmosphere around Telford Town Park and surrounding areas and people are asked to line to roads around the town centre to view the parade, show their support and take photos.

The procession will finish with a dance and music finale in Telford Town Park’s arena.

Live music and entertainment from BBC introducing act Esther Turner, Rock Choir, Hindu Temple Dancers, Chin Woo Martial Arts and West African Drummers will continue on stage throughout the day before Telford’s Got Talent winners “Intrigue” close the event with their winning songs.

There will also be demonstrations by Guinness World Record Holding strongman John Evans performing incredible feats of strength including balancing a car on his head!

Plus all of the usual activities including a funfair, sports & games, ski slope, climbing wall, food and drink stalls and a baby and toddler zone with changing and bottle warming facilities, soft play and disco dome for under 4’s.

Cllr Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships said: “Our carnival events here in Telford have been a huge hit over the last few years and we can’t wait to create more lasting memories for Telford’s 50th birthday year.

“This year local communities have had the opportunity to create the parade sculptures to make the event their own and they have learned many new skills along the way which is just fantastic.”

There is plenty of parking available in Telford Shopping Centre car parks and Telford International Centre will also be opening up their car park (chargeable) for the day.
