Over 7,000 votes were cast on www.scbatelford50.co.uk by the public for the business they believed should win the award from four shortlisted companies.

Exotic Zoo was announced as winner at the Shropshire Chamber Business Award celebrations on Friday, 15 June.

Capgemini, Fabweld Steel Products and SP Services were the other companies shortlisted in the final.

Scott Adams from Exotic Zoo said: “We are thrilled to have won the Telford50 Business Award.

It’s amazing that people took the time to vote for  us, not only because of our number one on Tripadvisor’s “things to do” in Telford but also as a result of our commitment to community involvement and the education programs we are engaged in.

We’d like to thank all the members of our community that have supported us for this award”.

Councillor Lee Carter, Cabinet Member for Finance, Commercial Services & Economic Development said:

“Congratulations to Exotic Zoo for winning the award and a big thank you to all the companies that have taken part. It was brilliant to see so many businesses across a range of sectors and of all sizes taking part.

“All borough businesses and their employees are a key part of Telford’s present and future and we are thrilled to be celebrating Telford’s 50th anniversary with them – recognizing the contribution they make in developing and growing our town.”

Richard Sheehan, Chief Executive at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, said “We were delighted to host this one-off for the Telford50 Award.

It was a perfect fit for our desire to recognise excellence in business, which was shown in abundance on the night but even more, to give the public the opportunity to decide on the winner was an added bonus”.

From international to ‘home grown’ and across a range of sectors, 60 borough businesses registered for the one-off Telford50 Business Award.

Companies had to complete a short application form justifying in 250 words what makes their business stand out in Telford and Wrekin and the impact it has had within the borough during the past 50 years.
