Grant funding for Telford’s entrepreneurial residents
Telford residents are showing their entrepreneurial spirit with more than 60 requesting application forms for a Council grant for retail business start-ups.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Empty Unit Incentive Grant is part of its Pride in Our Community High Street initiative, which offers grant funding of between £2,000 and £10,000 for people with an inspiring business idea to bring empty retail premises in Wellington, Oakengates and Dawley back into use.
The grant is just one of the ways the Council’s high street initiative is helping to breathe new life into struggling high streets which are vital community hubs.
Grants can be used to refurbish and fit out premises, with the highest grants being awarded to business ideas that will have the greatest impact on the high street and contribute to local employment.
So far, the Council has received 64 requests for application forms but there is still time to request an application form to apply for a grant to bring an empty shop back into use.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for finance, commercial services and economic development, said: “This grant opportunity is one of a whole raft of support that our team offers new businesses and part of a package of measures to help our local borough high streets. It’s ideal for anyone wanting to start a business on one of these local high streets.
“We will soon start to allocate funding, and once the funds are allocated we will stop taking applications. So, if you haven’t already, now is the time to get your bid in.”
