Council extraordinary meeting to discuss Child Sexual Exploitation motion
The Council’s speaker has agreed to an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council following a request by councillors.
The meeting is scheduled to be held on 10 April at the Place in Oakengates at 6pm.
On the same evening, the Council will also reconvene an adjourned Full Council meeting . This was adjourned before business was completed because of heavy snowfall on the night of 1 March.
The motion requested to come before the meeting is as follows:
“This Meeting requests that the Cabinet of Telford & Wrekin Council approve the commissioning and implementation of a ‘non-statutory’ Independent Inquiry into all aspects of historical and current instances of Child Sexual Exploitation within the Borough.
“This Meeting also requests the Cabinet to instruct Council Officers to commission such an Inquiry as soon as practically possible.
“This Meeting also notes that such a ‘non-statutory’ Inquiry will allow the opportunity for victims and survivors to give evidence in private and free from any other pressures or interference. Such arrangements will hopefully also encourage other victims to come forward.”
The motion has been proposed by Cllr Andrew Eade and seconded by Cllr Nigel Dugmore.
