Spring into St George’s Day - 22 Apr
Jousting knights, camel racing, bushcrafts and hi tech virtual entertainment are among just some of the free family fun on offer as the year’s major free event programme begins with Spring into St George’s Day.
The event on Sunday 22 April in Telford Town Park has established itself as a firm family favourite in the calendar, last year attracting over 10,000 people.
This year the usual Spring into the Park event combines with a programme to celebrate St George’s Day which falls on the following day.
Spring into St George’s Day is also the first in a series of events to help mark Telford’s 50th anniversary.
As well as traditional St George elements such as knights on horseback, a dragon, Morris men and archery, the event borrows some favourite themes from bygone Telford events such as camel racing, a dog show and a flea circus while also looking ahead to the future with robotic workshops and a virtual reality racing car.
The fun in Telford Town Park starts at 11am and continues until 4pm.

Cllr Arnold England, cabinet member for communities, health and wellbeing said; “This event has become a firm family favourite in the borough’s calendar and it’s great that this year we’re able to offer an even bigger free event to help mark both Telford 50 and St George’s Day.
“I am sure that we’ll see a big turnout for what should be a memorable day in the fabulous surroundings of Telford Town Park, kick-starting lots more events throughout the rest of the year to mark Telford’s 50th anniversary”.
These include the Telford Balloon and Kite Fiesta (12-13 May), Carnival of Telford Giants (15 July) and a host of top names and acts coming to The Place in The Park Big Top ( 4-19 Aug). More details at www.telford50.co.uk
