Telford at 50 – get your words carved into the new Southwater Square
The Council invites anyone feeling creative to get involved in Telford 50 celebrations and put forward short statements and words that have the chance of being incorporated into the new extension to Southwater Square.
The extension to Southwater Square is due to complete Spring 2018, just in time for the main Telford 50 celebrations.
The Council wants this anniversary to have a permanent presence in Southwater Square, located at the heart of Southwater, overlooking the lake and Telford Town Park, and including interactive art, a water feature, soft landscaping and a raised lawn.
Those interested have until 4 December 2017 to submit sentences and words that celebrate 50 years of Telford and its exciting future.
The submissions put forward will be considered alongside those already received during a creative public workshop held late September in Southwater Library. Winning entries will be incorporated into features of the new public realm scheme.
If you want to submit your own statement and have the chance to see it set in stone, please send it by 4 December 2017 to telford50@telford.gov.uk or post it in the Telford 50 dedicated Facebook group.
Council Leader, Shaun Davis, said: “We want as many people as possible to get involved in the celebrations for next year”.
Seeing your Telford 50 statement as a permanent feature in the new scheme, being there for generations to come – is a great idea.
I am sure lots of people from our borough will want to see their words become a permanent part of what will be the impressive new public space in Southwater.”
