Could you be a Telford 50 GEM?
Could you be part of the volunteer army that helps Telford’s 50th birthday celebrations go off with bang in 2018?
To celebrate Telford 50 next year, the Council is organising and supporting a range of community festive events and is inviting people to volunteer to help make them happen.
Our volunteers for Telford 50 will be called GEMs (Golden Event Makers) and as many as possible are required to make Telford 50 extra-special! Some of the main events taking place in the first half of 2018 have already been announced (please check here) and this list will continue to grow!
So, if you feel proud about your borough and its communities, want to have fun and help make a spectacular 50th anniversary programme happen with like-minded people – come and join the Golden Event Makers team!
Some of the key roles we need GEMS to get involved with include Customer Support, Event Stewards, Marketing & Evaluation, and Technical Support & Event Photographer.
Different roles are available to suit different skills and support is provided by the Council to help GEMs.
Training packages, out-of-pocket expenses, standard references on request are among some of the benefits GEMs will enjoy.
Additionally, a Customer Care award will be on offer to a number of GEM volunteers who are able to attend two events during 2018.
Golden Event Makers will be easy to spot during the anniversary in their distinctive GEM T-shirts and Telford & Wrekin Council wants them to wear these with pride, as this team will be key to Telford 50 success!
If you are interested in becoming a GEM, all the information about this, together with role descriptions and how to apply is on Telford 50 website – www.telford50.co.uk/GEM.
Anyone age 16 or over, with suitable skills, can apply to join the GEMs team.
Cllr Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Tourism & Partnerships, said:
“The response we have had so far from the public to Telford 50 has been phenomenal, with people eager to be involved. This is another way residents can play an active and important part in the Telford 50 celebrations and create a truly memorable year.
“These volunteers will help make 2018 the best year for Telford ever, by supporting all the exciting events taking place.
“The volunteers will get a wealth of support including training, ongoing assistance and can decide how much time they want to commit – I am sure lots of people, like me, will be interested to become GEMs (Golden Event Makers).”
Each GEM will be invited to an information launch event in early 2018 to mark the opening of the anniversary year and to learn more about the roles and events.
