Sign up to No Hate Here campaign
Telford & Wrekin Council is signing up to West Mercia Police’s No Hate Here campaign and is encouraging everyone in the borough to do the same.
The campaign coincides with National Hate Crime Week (14 – 21 October) which is designed to educate people on what a hate crime is and engage with communities in not tolerating this kind of behaviour.
Over the next twelve months, officers from Telford & Wrekin Council, West Mercia Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams and other partner agencies will be encouraging schools, businesses and owners of public places, to sign up to say ‘no’ to hate on their premises.
Once signed up, there will be a sticker in their window to show their support for the campaign.
Councillor Arnold England, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “As a Co-Operative Council, one of our values is ‘Fairness and respect’ and we will show that by leading by example. On Monday, Telford & Wrekin Council will sign up to the campaign.
“And in the New Year, we are pleased to announce that the Safer Telford & Partnership have commissioned an organisation called ‘Heartsone’ to launch a programme a number of schools. This programme will enable those schools to talk to 9-12 year olds through the use of fiction and historical stories about hate crime and how to challenge it.
“This borough is no place for hatred. Join us in saying ‘No’ to Hate Here.”
