Find out about child safety at free event
People in Telford interested in keeping their children safe and accident free are being invited to attend an event as part of Child Safety Week.
The event is taking place in Telford Town Centre on the 9 June, and will be running all day.
A team of experts will be teaching people how to give CPR with a test dummy, as well as talking about the fatal distractions we face in everyday life and how they can be avoided.
The informal event is open to anybody at any time - anyone out shopping in Telford Town Centre is welcome to drop in on the day.
Liz Noakes, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Assistant Director for Health and Well Being, encouraged people to come along to the event and said:
“Accidents are a leading cause of death and injury for children. In the UK there are three deaths and over 2,000 hospital admissions every week as a result of accidents.
“Therefore, it is important to be aware of the items we use in our everyday lives that could lead to serious injuries, and keep them away from children.
“This year we’re focusing on electronic devises and how distracting they can be for parents. A lot can happen when your texting, browsing social media or playing games on your tablet or phone.
“Items found in every day life can cause serious injuries, such as: cleaning products, dishwasher and washing tablets, button batteries, adult medicine and blind cords. It’s important to know what these items are and to keep them out of the reach of children.”
Individuals responsible for child safety from Telford & Wrekin Council, Shropshire Fire & Rescue Services, Road Safety Services and Leisure services will all be present at the event.
