It’s back – Urban Games back in the ring for half-term.

For one day only, Wrestle-mania is back in town as part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s free activity programme for half-term.

It’s back – Urban Games back in the ring for half-term.

Sportfest Events has teamed up with the Urban Games programme to bring the ring back for free on Friday, 16 February between 11-1pm.

Children aged eight can learn to wrestle like a professional, let off some steam, have fun and burn some energy at this free session with moves like elbow drops or clothes lines.

The Urban Games are part of the council’s commitment to help provide affordable, accessible, and safe support for young people and the professionals coaches make sure youngsters get the most out of the events.

Councillor Kelly Middleton, (Lab) cabinet member for healthy, safer & stronger communities and partnerships said: “This event was popular last time so we’ve bought it back as one of the indoor options for Urban Games.

“The session means there’s less pressure on people’s pockets to find something fun to do for youngsters to do and just one way the council is making Telford and Wrekin a cleaner, greener and safer place to live.”

Hollinswood and Randlay Parish Council have contributed towards the cost along with the council’s Safer & Stronger Communities programme, funded in part by the Police and Crime Commissioner and the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Safer & Stronger Communities supports projects that help reduce crime based on ideas and suggestions by residents. Along with the Urban Games, youth and sport clubs, women’s self-defence classes, reading groups, even art and gardening groups are just a handful of projects the Safer & Stronger Communities team have helped set up in the last year.

It’s easy to get involved and if you have an idea for a project in your area, the team can help with advice as well as funding.

The wrestling is the last event for Urban Games this week but watch out for the Easter programme which will be available soon at www.Telford.gov.uk/Urbangames
