Join in with National Pothole Day- to fill ’em in!

It’s not a national day that usually sets the pulse racing, but Telford & Wrekin Council is encouraging everyone in the borough to join in the National Pothole Day on Monday, January 15 and report any potholes using the MyTelford app.

Join in with National Pothole Day- to fill ’em in!

The council’s road maintenance teams, as part of its Pride in Our Community programme, fix potholes and will be explaining some of the myths around potholes next week as well as encouraging people to get on board and let them know where the potholes are.

Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for highways maintenance, said: “The highways team is going above and beyond when it comes to repairs. More than 3,500 potholes were repaired in the last 12 months when only 1,600 were reported.”

“This is down to the proactive work of our teams and while we know bigger projects cause challenges in the short term, major resurfacing schemes mean safer roads for the long term."

In 2023, the National Highways Transport Survey revealed that Telford and Wrekin is where customer satisfaction is officially ranked number one in the Midlands.

Working alongside highways Contractor, Balfour Beatty, the Council uses the “Right First Time” efficient approach to repairing potholes, meaning the repairs last longer.

Councillor Carter added: “Residents are encouraged to actively help by reporting the potholes they spot, and the Council is hoping that National Pothole Day can help get even more people on pothole lookout.

Gareth Pegg, Operations Manager at Balfour Beatty Living Places said: “We are proud to be delivering essential road maintenance services for Telford & Wrekin Council, leveraging our operational control hub to swiftly process and action pothole repairs.

“Our dedicated teams work diligently on the network daily to make lasting and effective pothole repairs, demonstrating our commitment to service excellence and maintaining the local road network for the travelling public and local community alike.”

Report online via the MyTelford app, which will help you manage many other enquiries with the Council and monitor their progress.
