Women’s wellbeing roadshow – Saturday, September 9
Telford and Wrekin Council’s Safer & Stronger Communities project is focussing on women’ s health and will be hosting a roadshow on Saturday, September 9 at the Telford town centre.
The aim of the event is to provide women with support and guidance on a host of issues, ranging from health and fitness, safety and security as well as general wellbeing.
There’s a jam-packed schedule of activities planned to include live music, dancing and performances as well as sessions where people can join in.
Councillor for Safer & Stronger Communities, Councillor Kelly Middleton said: “This event is an ideal chance to speak to a range of experts in their fields on women’s health but also a chance to get together with friends and spend time exploring other important issues around women’s safety, health and wider well-being.
“Everyone is welcome, not just women, to enjoy the entertainment, learn some valuable skills or just access and learn about some of the support services available to women in Telford and Wrekin. Hope to see you there”
The event is completely free and will be held in the Minster Community Hall, access via main Meeting Point House entrance, next to the Novello Lounge, Southwater.
The event kicks-off at 9.30am with official opening and then it’s straight into a free self-defence taster session. The day will be compared by Lish Crutchley, Face of Britain 2021.
Throughout the day, a number of advisors will be on hand too, with skills and knowledge in subjects such as health including blood pressure checks, energy advice, the Safer & Stronger Programme, skin care, the maternity team will be there as will the charity Women’s Aid, Police and council enforcement officers.
There will also be a team that can help with carers support, the sport and leisure team, Age UK, St Giles Trust – a project that works with vulnerable young people - along with cancer support services and others.
The event starts at 9.30am and people are invited to drop in throughout the day until the event closes at 2.30pm.
The event is organised by Telford and Wrekin Council’s Safer & Stronger Communities Programme which is part-funded by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion.
The Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, said: “The investment I made in the Safer and Stronger Communities project, alongside Telford and Wrekin Council, continues to have an impact on people’s lives. The Women’s Wellbeing Roadshow is one of the ways in which this is happening as it gives residents a chance to have their voices heard in a safe environment and therefore, a safer community can be built.
“As well as investing in the Safer and Stronger Communities project, I am also committed to tackling violence against women and girls and this event raises greater awareness of the issues women are facing daily. I hope people walk away from this event with a greater understanding on how to report crimes against women happening in our community.”
The project supports communities with issues around safety but also individuals or groups who are keen to set up initiatives to reduce loneliness or encourage people to come together in activities that build pride and support such as social or gardening groups, youth clubs or similar projects.
