Prize draw for ditching paper and going digital
Households across Telford and Wrekin who go digital and ditch their traditional paper council tax bill could win an experience day voucher, as a thank you from the Telford & Wrekin Council for helping to cut down on paper bills.
Each year, the local authority issues around 80,000 council tax bills, which would equate to over 160kg of paper if they were all printed.
Currently just under a third of homes (30.6%) have switched to eBilling and receive their council tax bill online, leaving over 50,000 bills to be printed and posted, so the council is calling on bill payers to switch to online billing, in order to help save money and be more environmentally friendly.
As a special thank you for helping to cut down on paper bills, all households in Telford and Wrekin who sign up for eBilling before 5pm on Saturday 5 August will be entered into a prize draw to win an experience day voucher, worth £250.
Switching to online billing is free, and all information is safe and secure. Online statements are easy to access and can be printed off if a paper version is needed.
Councillor Nathan England, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, Governance and Customer Services, said: “By signing up to eBilling, residents and businesses can not only quickly and easily access their bill as soon as it is available, without having to wait for it to come through the post, but will also be helping the environment too.
“If we sent paper bills to all the households in Telford and Wrekin, we’d be sending out over 160kg of paper, so every home and business that signs up for eBilling is helping to reduce that impact, and the money saved can be better spent on frontline services.
“As a special thank you, everyone who is registered for eBilling by 5pm on Saturday 5 August will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Virgin Experience voucher. The voucher was donated to the council, and can be used against a range of activities and experience days.
“Switching to eBilling is very easy and online billing is free, safe and secure. If you sign up to pay by direct debit at the same time, you can be sure that your council tax bills are being paid on time, automatically. Switching to eBilling will also reduce the amount of post coming through your door too.”
