CCTV on tour across borough as 100 day ‘Safer Telford Tour’ begins
A new mobile closed-circuit television (CCTV) hub has begun a 100-day tour of Telford & Wrekin as part of continued work to tackle anti-social behaviour and keep the borough’s residents safe.
The state of the art facility is kitted out with the latest technology and cameras. It is being used as part of an operation alongside West Mercia Police to catch and deter illegal off-road bikes in Madeley, Woodside, Brookside and Sutton Hill this Sunday 21 May.
It will then continue on its borough wide tour to tackle issues such as safer parking outside schools, fly tipping and littering from vehicles.
Councillor Richard Overton, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for homes and enforcement (Labour) said: “Most people in Telford and Wrekin are good, law-abiding people but a minority are not and cause misery for others.
“We have seen a 10% reduction in anti-social behaviour across the borough and keeping people safe is a top priority for us. We won’t hesitate to fine or prosecute people who continue to break the rules.
“We’ve invested heavily in CCTV across the borough and now have a network of over 700 cameras to help us crack down on anti-social behaviour.
“This latest addition adds a further 12 cameras to this and because we can move it around the borough, it gives us the flexibility to tackle issues in any of our communities.
“People want and deserve to feel safer and in the next 100 days, the new mobile CCTV hub will visit every ward across the borough.”
Residents are urged to report anti-social behaviour such as graffiti, abandoned vehicles, fly tipping or dog fouling to the council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team by emailing envmaintcs@telford.gov.uk or calling 01952 384 384. Lines are open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.
Other types of anti-social behaviour, such as begging, criminal damage or harassment should be reported to West Mercia Police. Non emergencies can be reported online. In an emergency call 999.
