News from our partners: King’s Award for Voluntary Service workshops

This very prestigious award celebrates the outstanding work of local volunteer groups across the UK and is the equivalent to an MBE, giving royal recognition to the work they do.

A series of information sessions have been arranged to explain more about how the nomination process works, and to encourage people to put forward worthy organisations. These are being held on:

  • Thursday 11 May 2023, 4pm-5pm at the Shrewsbury Room, Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury
  • Tuesday 16 May 2023, 10.30am-11.30am at The Baptist Church, Water Lane, Newport
  • Tuesday 23 May 2023, 7pm-8pm online via Zoom

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire Mrs Anna Turner JP, said: “I have been delighted to see so many voluntary groups in the county being awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and would like to support even more organisations across Shropshire win this award which, following the Ascension of King Charles III, has now become the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.”

Groups do not have to be a registered charity; any voluntary organisation with three or more volunteers and that has been running for at least three years can be nominated.
