Council supports Wellington Market’s late night entertainment

Telford & Wrekin Council has announced its continued support for Wellington Market’s late night events to ensure their continued success. This will build on the support for the events provided by the Council’s Pride in Our High Street initiative in 2022.

Council supports Wellington Market’s late night entertainment

The council has worked in partnership with Castlepoint Markets and Wellington Town Council to ensure the entertainment available during the late nights attracts not only locals but also out of area visitors. Since 2021, the council has supported 9 food start-up businesses to open within the market, enabling a new food court to be established which has proved to be very popular.

The late night events, which ran every month throughout 2022, were full to capacity. The Council’s continued support will build on this achievement, bringing benefits to local businesses and residents.

Katherine Kynaston, Telford & Wrekin Council Director for Housing, Employment & Infrastructure said: "We're delighted to be supporting Wellington Market late night events. Their success in 2022 demonstrates the commitment of the community to the market and we're excited to see this new season of entertainment continue to drive growth in the local economy."

Nisha Devi-Sanghera, Head of Operations & Estates for Castlepoint Markets said: "We're thrilled with the support we've received from the council and our partners in making the market a destination for both locals and visitors alike.

“The late night events have been a fantastic success, and we're looking forward to building on this success in the coming months.”

Wellington Market late night events will be held on the following dates throughout 2023: 29 April, 27 May, 24 June, 29 July, 26 August, 30 September, 28 October, and 18 November.

Units are available at Wellington market for new traders and interested parties should explore the Pride in Your High Streets start-up trail grants available via Telford & Wrekin Council.

Telford & Wrekin Council has awarded 39 start-up grants to businesses totalling £79,000, helping to grow the markets in Wellington, Madeley and Newport and encourage local shopping. Work is also underway to support the relaunch of Oakengates Market as part of the Oakengates Town Fund plans which will redevelop the markets former home into a new vibrant event space.
