Dozens of ex-service men and women already visit the regular sessions every month in Dawley to socialise and meet like-minded people. 

The extra session will take place at Dawley House (22 Burton Street, Dawley, TF4 2E) on Wednesday 25 January from 10am until 12pm.   

Trained staff from Telford Mind will also be on hand to offer mental health and wellbeing support and signpost to Service and non-Service charities who will be able to offer additional advice and support to those who attend.

Councillor Chris Turley, Chair of Telford and Wrekin’s Armed Forces Covenant commented: “January is notoriously a difficult month; the darker, colder days mean people are inside the house for longer and this year we have the added pressure of the cost-of-living crisis. 

“We know so many residents of our residents are struggling right now and have extra financial concerns around bills increasing.  This additional calm café for veterans will offer a warm space with the opportunity to get hot drink and speak to people with shared experiences - as well as get any support they need from professionals. 

“The Armed Forces Covenant recognises the value that veterans contribute to our businesses and our country and through initiatives like the Calm Cafes we will ensure that our 16,000 ex-service personnel living in the borough have access to all of the support they need.” 

The Veteran Calm Cafes are funded as a part of the Armed Forces Covenant which has awarded £6,250 to the council under their Safer and Stronger Delivery programme.

Dawley Town Council and Madeley Town Council are both members of the borough’s Armed Forces Covenant and have provided the venues for the sessions to take place as a part of their pledge to support those who serve or who have served in the armed forces.
