Council in the driving seat for new express bus service

Funded by Telford & Wrekin Council, the new 100 bus route, nick-named the ‘Express’ will launch on Monday, December 19 and is set to transform the way people get to work and the way pupils get to Telford Priory School.

Residents are invited to catch a free ride to experience the route and timings on the launch day (all day) from all stops. Not only that, recruitment agency - Telford Industrial - Telford College's Employability Team and the council’s JobBox team will also be on board taking details of people looking for work and training opportunities.

The new service will cover continental shift patterns and enable people to get to work on time in a cost effective and reliable way. The first morning departure from Madeley bus station is at 4:50am seven days a week and runs throughout the day until 11pm.

It will also provide direct transport for pupils to Telford Priory School according to its timetable with an additional service for after school sessions.

Fares are capped at a maximum of £2 per single journey for adults (£1 for U16s) and average journey times have been slashed - the average time from Sutton Hill to employment estates is  five minutes to Halesfield, 19 to Stafford Park and 31 minutes to furthest away, Hortonwood.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Enforcement and Transport, Councillor Richard Overton said: “This new service is clear evidence of how the council is on your side so please come and ride the bus for free and see for yourself what it’s all about.

“We listened to your requests for bus services to be adapted, worked with you to gather your views and ideas and we have now paid for and delivered the first bus service that will hopefully make a big difference to the way people can access employment and get to school. With a reliable and cost effective method.

“We know this is a new service and would urge people to give their feedback so we can continue to work together and provide the best service possible and help keep people in work.”

Employers will board the bus at Sutton Hill from 11.50am until the 13:40pm departure also at Sutton Hill.

This service is the first of four new council-funded routes due to launch imminently.

If you are an employer who would like to join the recruitment drive, then please email media@Telford.gov.uk

The 100 service starts on Monday, 19 December, departing from Madeley at 4.50am.
