Gym refurbishment now complete at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre
Telford & Wrekin Council’s £230,000 refurbishment into its aspirations gym at Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre is now complete.
The investment which is part of the council’s wider £4.6 million commitment for leisure services was announced last year to help make the borough cleaner, greener, safer and more enjoyable.
The gym refurbishment has seen new state of the art gym kit installed from Pulse Fitness including 30 cardio stations complete with treadmills, elliptical cross trainers, stepmills and Watt Bikes. There are also 19 fixed resistance stations which includes an eight station resistance frame and eight free weight stations with a smith machine and half rack. Plus the installation of new group cycling bikes to enhance the cycling classes offer at the centre.
Councillor Kelly Middleton (Labour), Cabinet Member for Leisure, Public Health and Well-Being, Equalities and Partnerships commented: “Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre is one of our most used leisure facilities in the borough with over 15,000 people walking through the doors each week and I am thrilled that customers can now start to reap the benefits of the newly refurbished gym.
“We are on the side of our residents, we know how important it is for residents to have access to high-quality facilities to keep fit and stay healthy and that’s why we will continue to invest in our council owned leisure facilities.”
The re-opening of Wellington’s aspirations gym comes just one week after Newport swimming and Fitness Centre fully reopened following the Carbon Reduction Scheme work at the site. This scheme was also part of the part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and its On Your Side investment programme into the borough.
