Telford & Wrekin Council is offering two more Access to Higher Education programmes in education and health professions from September.

Latest Access to Higher Education courses are stepping stone to university

The Learn Telford Access courses are quickly establishing themselves as the go to stepping stone for adults looking to enter university.

So far two sets of successful local residents have opened the doors to degrees in nursing, midwifery, special educational needs, pharmacy, education and more with a third cohort being recruited for this academic year.

The Education and Health Professionals programmes both provide the perfect route to universities across the UK and the HE qualifications can also help secure future careers in the education and healthcare sectors.

On the education programme, the focus is on teaching and learning theory and supporting children through crucial aspects of their physical and mental development.

Meanwhile, the healthcare course targets learners who are passionate about getting involved in healthcare and focuses on the history of the NHS, human biology and physiology and social inequalities in healthcare.

Learn Telford programmes are delivered by Telford & Wrekin Council and aim to provide high quality learning opportunities for people living in the borough.

They encourage people across different communities to experience the joy of learning and take advantage of the wider benefits that participation in learning brings, such as increased confidence, reduced social isolation and improved wellbeing.

Learn Telford also aims to improve the skills and employment levels across the borough by supporting adults who are low skilled or unemployed.

Councillor Eileen Callear (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Visitor Economy, Employment and Skills said: “We are pleased to be able to continue to offer Access to Higher Education programmes via Learn Telford from September.

“These courses are a fantastic part of the Learn Telford package and a great way for local people to gain qualifications and secure places at universities up and down the country.

“They also offer excellent routes into employment and as a council which is on your side we are committed to helping people learn new skills, achieve qualifications and secure new employment opportunities.”
