Chance to raise concerns over anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Telford & Wrekin Council, along with other agencies, is supporting a national week of action, continuing efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour and raise public knowledge of powers to tackle the behaviour.

Chance to raise concerns over anti-social behaviour (ASB).

National ASB Awareness Week, runs from Monday 18 July to Sunday 24 and will see the council lead a multi-agency effort to support residents, working with partner agencies such as Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service and local safer neighbourhood teams (SNT) from West Mercia Police.

In the past 12 months, the ASB team have investigated up to 20 different complaints a week, helped resolve more than 200 noise cases and carried out more than 30 operations around various types of ASB.

The team deals with issues that cause alarm, harassment and distress and work alongside partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes, legal powers to enforce regulations as well as manage the CCTV system for the borough.

As part of ASB Week, ‘street meets’ with the council’s Safer & Stronger Communities neighbourhood coordinators along with the council’s ASB officers, SNTs and the fire service, will take place and support around reporting and resolving issues will be shared.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Enforcement and Transport for Telford and Wrekin Council, Richard Overton (Labour), said: “We are on your side when it comes to ASB. We know it can affect you and takes many forms such as motoring offences, graffiti, fly tipping, street drinking, noise disturbance and nuisance neighbours.

“Working with partner agencies such as the Police means we can tackle each instance in the best way and can have outcomes like Community Protection Notices and Criminal Behaviour Orders.

To report ASB you can call 101 or call 01952 384384 or visit the website.

Polling by YouGov for Resolve found that more than one third (35%) of the UK public had experienced an increase in ASB in their local area, with just 1% believing that the problem had ‘decreased a lot’. Following the end of Covid restrictions, it is likely that the situation will continue to deteriorate.

Two street meets are being held, the first is at Newport Square (TF10 7AG) on the high street between 12 noon and 2pm on Thursday 21 while the second is at Hollinswood Community Centre (TF3 2EW) on August 2 between 9an and 12 noon.
