Family Fun Day and Armed Forces Day Celebration to be held in Donnington.

A popular family event is planned for Saturday 25 June, it’s a great opportunity to have a fun day out with the family and enjoy all the free entertainment and activities while celebrating the work of Telford and Wrekin’s Armed Forces community.

The Family Fun Day and Armed Forces Day Celebrations are open to all and takes place at Broadoaks Playing Field, Donnington from 10.30am - 4pm. 

Entertainment includes live music from the Bluebird Belles and the RAF Cosford Military Band, sporting activities for children with Rawzone Basketball, archery, free runners Parkour, football cage and Bright Star Boxing and more, military vehicles on display and new for this year are activities from the 1940s School.  Residents and visitors can also enjoy the World War II re-enactment group, food and drink* and a visit from the Calm Café on the Road and activities from Armed forces Covenant members, plus a fun fair*. 

Armed Forces Day celebrations begin on Monday 20 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country, followed in Telford by the Family Fun Day and Armed Forces Day Celebration event on the last Saturday each June, come along and enjoy the free activities and entertainment and show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Councillor Carolyn Healy (Labour) Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Green Spaces, Natural and Historic Environment and Cultural Services said: 

“Events are being held across the country to mark this year’s Armed Forces Day.  We are delighted to be hosting this event in the borough as part of a nationwide thankyou to the Armed Forces community whilst bringing together local residents to enjoy a free family-fun day out. Last year saw a great turnout and we are looking forward to seeing many of you back again including veterans, cadets, local residents, visitors to the borough and serving military personnel”. 

Councillor Chris Turley, lead on the Armed Forces Covenant for the borough, commented: “Once again this is an opportunity to show our appreciation of all the service men and women who are committed to protecting our country, and also to their families who support them throughout their service.”


*Food and drink and fun fair rides will be available to purchase on the day.
