National Volunteers' Week - A time to say thanks

Telford & Wrekin Council is celebrating National Volunteers' Week, 1-7 June, to thank local volunteers.

National Volunteers' Week - A time to say thanks

In the recovery from the pandemic and in the cost of living crisis, people have come together to help each other as never before.

The community spirit has been "incredible", says Cllr Paul Watling, cabinet member for co-operative communities, engagement and partnerships.

He added: "I have been blown away by the work local volunteers have done this year.

"On behalf of the council, I would like to thank everyone who gives their time to help others or improve their local area.

"You are all amazing, and I hope that we can ignite a passion for helping in others by sharing some of the stories.

"Telford and Wrekin is full of organisations, groups and people who give back to their community and help others. I am so proud to be part of such a caring community.

"Volunteering brings people together and makes communities stronger and more resilient. Which is especially important during this cost of living crisis.

"It also has massive benefits for the volunteers who often experience a boost to their wellbeing and a sense of purpose. You can make new friends, gain skills and have fun - all while volunteering.

Throughout National Volunteers' Week, the council will be sharing stories of how volunteers help the local community on social media.
