New children’s play park facilities are set to be delivered in St Georges later this year as a part of the council’s approved refurbishment plans for the iconic Gower building.

The new enhanced play park will replace the existing play area at The Gower as a part the refurbishment scheme for the site.

An area of open space off Marrion’s Hill has been identified as the preferred location for a new children’s play park, replacing the existing play facility within the Gower site.

A new Parish Council Office, community space and homes to rent by Nuplace, the council’s wholly owned housing company, are also being delivered as a part of the refurbishment plan which received planning consent in November 2021.

Cllr Carolyn Healy (Labour), Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Green Spaces, Natural and Historic Environment and Cultural Services, said: “The council is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and we know how valuable local play park facilities are to all of our communities. The new play park, to be located off Marrion’s Hill, St Georges, will deliver an improved selection of play equipment which will benefit the local community for years to come.

“It has always been our priority to ensure a scheme is bought forward for The Gower which both protects this important heritage building and also provides a facility for use by the local community.”

The new play park does not require a formal planning application and will be delivered using permitted development rights.

Dragon Play will manage the construction of the new play which is expected to be completed by September 2022.

Residents are invited to come along to an information event on Tuesday 14 June 2022 (between 2.30pm and 6pm) at St Georges, & Priorslee Parish Council, where they can discuss and find out more about the relocation of the play park.

Residents who would like to be kept up to date on the scheme can also register their email addresses online.
