Eight out of ten homes get their rebate

Over 8 out of 10 eligible households in Telford and Wrekin have now received their £150 council tax energy rebate (82%) in the first month of the national scheme, and almost 9 out of 10 eligible homes (89%) in higher bands have received their £100 payment under the local support scheme.

Eight out of ten homes get their rebate

In the first month of the scheme, Telford & Wrekin Council has transferred more than £8.3m in support payments to eligible residents across the borough, making more than 55,500 payments so far.

Most households in the borough in Bands A to D who pay their council tax by direct debit have now had the money transferred directly into their bank accounts. Homes in these bands who do not pay by direct debit have also been contacted in the last week to arrange payments.

In addition to the national payment scheme, Telford &Wrekin Council is also supporting people in the borough in higher council tax brackets too, with £100 payments from its own funds for people in Band E, and £150 for those in Bands E to H who also receive Council Tax Reduction support. So far, almost 90% of these households have received their payment. Over the next few weeks the council will be contacting the remaining households in these bands to arrange payments.

Councillor Shaun Davies (Labour), Leader of Telford &Wrekin Council, said: “The national £150 rebate was good news for households in council tax bands A to D but people in other bands are feeling the impact of rising food and fuel costs too. We know residents across the borough are struggling and we’re on their side.

“That’s why we’re giving homes in Band E a £100 payment, and those in higher bands who receive council tax reduction support a £150 payment from our own funds. This additional payment, in addition to the national scheme, means that over 95 per cent of all homes in Telford and Wrekin will receive some support.

“In the first month of the scheme, we’ve made over 55,500payments to eligible homes across the borough, totalling more than £8.3million. More than 80% of those eligible for the £150 payment and almost 90% of those eligible for the £100 payment have now received theirs.

“We are now working through the remaining households, to get their payments to them as soon as possible. If you have not had yours yet, please rest assured you will not miss out. We are on your side and will get the payments made as soon as we can.

“If you have not yet received your money, we will be contacting you over the next few weeks to arrange payment, so please wait to hear from us.”
