Telford & Wrekin Council helps MyWorkwear make smart industry move

The council’s business support team, Enterprise Telford, introduced MyWorkwear to the ‘Made Smarter Scheme’ which gives companies the digital tools, innovation and skills to go from strength-to-strength in their sector.

MyWorkwear, based at Halesfield, Telford is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of work clothing for a variety of employment sectors.

Using state-of-the-art embroidery and direct to film print machines, MyWorkwear specialise in producing personalised and branded garments including uniforms, workwear, teamwear, promotional items and other garments.

The company, which works with brands as varied as Vimto, the NHS and Oxford University, also supply PPE and non-personalised clothing.

Enterprise Telford has worked with MyWorkwear to offer business expertise and signpost them to the Made Smarter Scheme which paved the way for the firm’s new ‘smart’ factory in Telford.

The production base has been devised by the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) through the scheme which has allowed for greater productivity through an enhanced ‘smart’ factory layout and the use of advanced software to digitise processes.

Through Made Smarter, the firm secured a £20,000 grant and then made a further £100,000 Capex investment which has enabled the firm to increase production with three new embroidery machines, a direct to film print machine and other state-of-the-art technology.

MyWorkwear, which has been in business for 46 years, is now aiming to reach £5 million in sales by 2025 thanks to the new investment.

Managing Director James Worthington said: “We’re very grateful for the support and advice we’ve received from the Enterprise Telford team.

“Introducing us to the Made Smarter Scheme paved the way for this additional investment, meaning we can now take on more customers and much larger orders and continue to maintain our high quality standards and service levels.

“This business support is invaluable to local businesses and Enterprise Telford have played a key role in helping us to achieve our business goals.”

MyWorkwear works with hundreds of companies across the UK in industries including education, retail, manufacturing and construction.

Councillor Eileen Callear (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Visitor Economy, Employment and Skills said: “Our Enterprise Telford team supports lots of local businesses, helping them to access additional funding and support which can help with their growth and progression.

“It’s fantastic to see MyWorkwear benefit from the Made Smarter Scheme and the additional investment which has taken this Telford business to the next level.”
