Explore childcare and early years opportunities at Telford event
People who want to explore a career in childcare can find out more about exciting, local opportunities in the sector next month.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Early Years and Childcare team is hosting the Childcare Careers & Training event at Southwater One, Telford on Saturday 14 May (10.30am-2.30pm).
Childcare practitioners and training providers will be highlighting latest vacancies with local nurseries and offering information about recognised training programmes and qualifications which can support this career pathway.
The event is an 'open door' event but all those attending are requested to register their interest in advance here
Children are also welcome to attend on the day but for those unable to visit they can still register their details and receive updates about latest childcare and early years opportunities.
Childcare workers enjoy working with children, they are self-motivated, nurturing, caring and have a genuine interest in each individual child’s wellbeing, development and play.
Those working in early years & childcare settings, schools and as childminders are responsible for providing care, learning and development as set out by the Department for Education and will work with children from birth onwards.
Shirley Reynolds (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Childcare is a very rewarding career, whether that’s working in a nursery environment or as a childminder.
“There are lots of opportunities in the sector locally and this event is an opportunity for people to explore them and find out more about what a career in childcare and working with children involves.
“For anyone who is passionate and enthusiastic about enabling children to become happy and confident learners who can reach their full potential then this could be the perfect career.”
A series of videos from current childcare professionals will also be screened at the event which show the different routes people have taken into childcare and what they find enjoyable about their roles.
Councillor Eileen Callear (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Visitor Economy, Employment and Skills, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming childcare employers and training providers to Southwater One for this event.
“It will give people the opportunity to find out more about the employment opportunities that exist in childcare across the Telford and Wrekin borough and hopefully help local nurseries to recruit new employees and fill some of the gaps in this service area.”
