Support payments on their way

Support payments will start reaching thousands of homes in Telford and Wrekin this week, to help with the increasing costs of living.

Support payments on their way

Almost 47,000 homes in the borough in council tax bands A to D will be receiving a £150 payment through the national Energy Rebate Scheme this week, and from next week (week commencing 11 April) around 5,000 homes in Band E will receive a £100 discretionary payment from Telford & Wrekin Council, to support them too.

Councillor Shaun Davies (Labour), Leader of Telford &Wrekin Council, said: “The Council has acted quickly in response to the rising cost of living and we have done everything we can to make sure that people receive this much needed support as soon as possible.

“We’ve also gone one step further in Telford and Wrekin, and extended support to people in higher council tax brackets in the borough too. The additional support we are giving to people living in Band E homes, plus those in Bands F to H who already receive council tax reduction support, shows that we really are on the side of our residents.

“These £100 payments for higher bands, plus the £150 national payment for homes in Bands A-D, means that over 95% of homes in the borough will receive some much-needed extra financial support during this time of increasing bills and rising costs.

“Those homes that already pay their council tax by direct debit will receive the money automatically, directly into their bank accounts later this week. If you’ve only just signed up for direct debit payments, the money will be in your account next week.

“For those homes who pay their council tax by cash or other methods, we’ll shortly begin writing to them, inviting them to apply for their payment. We aim to process these as quickly as possible, so if you haven’t received your payment, please don’t get in touch yet, we’ll be in contact soon.”
