Small Talk Nurseries opens in Dawley with capacity for 50 children

Small Talk Nurseries is continuing to grow by officially opening on Dawley High Street after receiving a business start-up grant through Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Our High Street programme.

The nursery has received a £10,000 cash boost to support the move to the 10-12 High Street premises which was previously Abacus Nursery.

This venture is part of wider business plans to open a further 20 nurseries in the region over the next five years under the Small Talk Nurseries franchise.

The private day nursery offers free-funded places for two, three and four year- olds from 15 and 30 hours a week.

It will accommodate 0-15 year olds and provide a range of other activities including breakfast clubs, after school clubs and holiday clubs for working parents.

Small Talk Nurseries is the fourth new business to open on Dawley High Street through the Pride in our High Street programme in the last 18 months.

The well-established business has been trading since 2010 and has an excellent reputation for providing a high end nursery facility.

Jaspreet Nazran, Director of Small Talk Nurseries Telford, said: “We are really excited to open our Small Talk Nurseries facility in the heart of Dawley.

“We’re really grateful for the business start-up grant which has helped us to make this move and for the support we’ve received from the Pride in our High Street programme.

“We’re looking forward to offering quality childcare provision in the town as we continue to expand our franchise.”

Up to 18 staff will be on site at the nursery which is open 51 weeks a year from 7.30am to 6pm.

Small Talk Nurseries is committed to providing high quality early years education for all children in their care.

Councillor Lee Carter (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, Regeneration and the High Street, said: “It’s very pleasing to see Small Talk Nurseries open in Dawley which will certainly fill a service gap in the town.

“This will be a very useful option for parents who are balancing the demands of work with looking after their children, either during the day or before and after work and free-funded places are available at the nursery.

“I’m sure this will be very popular in the local community and will be welcomed by families which need additional childcare support.”

Telford & Wrekin Council is dedicated to supporting high street businesses across the borough through the Revive and Thrive fund – a £4.8 million investment which is part of the council’s wider Pride in Our High Street programme.

The latest revive and thrive grants were unveiled in January and include five funding strands - a high street business start-up grant, a start-up trial grant, a digital high street grant, a high street property façade grant and a high street ‘eco’ grant.

Cllr Lee Carter added: “Small Talk Nurseries is a growing franchise going from strength-to-strength with an excellent reputation so it’s very pleasing to see them choose Dawley as a new home.

“It’s excellent that empty units in the town are being filled through Pride in Our High Street programme – boosting the local economy and providing people with popular and much needed services and retail outlets on their doorstep.”
