Yearlong programme of enforcement continues across the borough
Telford and Wrekin Council’s enforcement team took part in its second multi-agency, day of action last week, to clamp down on environmental crimes as part of a series across the borough. (Tuesday, March 14)
The multi-agency operation saw officers from Telford and Wrekin Council’s enforcement team join forces with West Mercia Police and the Driver’s Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
The second event focussed on known hotspot areas of Dawley and Malinslee, part of the council’s efforts to identify, clear and investigate fly tips as well as to work with the DVLA to identify untaxed and uninsured vehicles and clear away any that have been abandoned.
The teams issued warnings for untaxed vehicles and towed away a van which appeared to be abandoned with no tax or MOT and clamped another that had been untaxed for ten months.
They also removed a number of fly tips, most notably one on St Christopher’s Way, near Malinslee playing field and another incident where a first warning was successfully issued to a landlord.
Other activities included a litter pick, abandoned bins removed as well as advice given to residents about bulky waste collections and offensive graffiti was also removed.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Enforcement and Transport, Councillor Richard Overton said: “Telford is the safest major town in Shropshire and we want to keep it that way.
“By our teams getting out into communities and working with partners, we are able to identify areas of concern and can be on hand to discuss any issues residents may have - be it about fly tipping, abandoned vehicles or anti-social behaviour. This is the second in a yearlong programme that will cover all the hot spot areas of Telford.”
