Council responds to Homes for Ukraine scheme announcement

In response to the announcement made yesterday about the Homes for Ukraine scheme, Councillor Paul Watling (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for stronger and safer communities, said: “What is happening in Ukraine is appalling and our thoughts are with everyone affected.

“As a local authority we will be doing all we can to support Ukrainians who come to Telford and Wrekin, and to support our residents who wish to sponsor them with the offer of somewhere to stay.

Telford & Wrekin Council has been working in partnership with Telford Interfaith Council and the local Polish community to co-ordinate donations received over the last few weeks.

Anyone wishing to donate specific items locally can contact Telford Interfaith Council on 07545 023519 to arrange a drop off. The Polish Saturday School will shortly be launching a fundraising appeal too; look out for more information coming soon.
