‘Find it Fix it’ pothole crews are out in Telford and Wrekin

Telford & Wrekin Council’s ‘Find it Fix it’ crews have been out in force this winter, fixing double the number of potholes being reported.
The trend for reported pothole numbers has been steadily declining – by almost half between 2019 and 2021 and the council is encouraging people to use the MyTelford app to help identify and report areas with potholes.
Councillor Lee Carter, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, Regeneration and the High Street, said: “The reduction in the number of potholes being reported, reflects the work going on behind the scenes.
“We are keeping roads in good order funded by continued investment by Telford & Wrekin Council into our roads and footpaths, despite continued cuts in government funding.
“As we move in to the spring, we hope the public will help us by identifying and reporting pot holes in the MyTelford app, particularly following the very wet winter weather and freezing temperatures that takes a toll on the borough’s roads.”
“Many hands make light work and the more that are identified, the more we can fix and maintain our reputation as one of the top ranked areas in the country for satisfaction with highway and transport services. So please, if you spot a pothole, report it, so our Find it Fix it crews can sort it.”
Potholes are an all too common problem in winter. During cold weather snaps, water freezes, expands and then thaws which creates a weak point under the road surface.
When traffic travels over this weakened area, the road surface starts to break up and a pothole is eventually formed.
This process is then repeated and the pothole can become larger with snow and ice worsening conditions because of the constant freezing and thawing.
Highways inspectors, who are out on the borough’s roads every day, report potholes they see to the crews for fixing and are asking residents to report any they spot too.
Between 2020 and 2024 the council is investing more than £50m to keep neighbourhoods safe, clean and well connected and the ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme will deliver improvements to infrastructure including roads, footpaths, parking, sustainable transport, street furniture, drains and structures.
