Council Leader responds to Panorama report about Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
Following the Panorama report about maternity services at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, Telford & Wrekin Council Leader Shaun Davies has responded.
"It was desperately sad to watch Panorama last night about the failures in maternity care at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. My heart goes out to the courageous families who shared their harrowing experiences and paid tribute to the babies they had loved and lost. I’m a local dad and have heard first hand from other parents who have told me their personal stories; so I know too well the distress and pain felt by families in the region.
"The publication of the final Ockenden report next month is vitally important and will be a watershed moment not only for the NHS but crucially for the families who lost their children.
"I must however commend those members of staff at SaTH who work so hard to make sure that many parents and babies have a positive experience of maternity care. I also recognise there have been considerable improvements since the interim report, ensuring women and families get excellent quality of care now and in the future."
