Equalities strategy open for feedback
Telford & Wrekin Council is inviting feedback on its draft Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, which sets out the authority’s commitment to being an open and inclusive council.
The draft four-year strategy includes a clear vision and new set of objectives focusing on leadership and organisational commitment, having a diverse workforce, providing accessible and responsive services and celebrating diversity.
Throughout February, voluntary and community sector groups will have the opportunity to feed back through engagement sessions, to help shape the strategy and ensure it meets the needs of local communities.
Alongside this, residents are invited to have their say too. The draft strategy is available online on the council’s website at www.telford.gov.uk/equality and views can be fed back via email to yourviewsmatter@telford.gov.uk
Councillor Kelly Middleton, cabinet member for leisure, public health and wellbeing, equalities and partnerships(Labour), said: “Our new four-year strategy sets out the type of culture we want to promote through our workforce and how we treat our residents and customers, and takes into account our legal and statutory responsibilities.
“This is an opportunity for residents, partners and community groups to shape our approach and help us to ensure that we are a truly inclusive organisation in all that we do.
“Over the next few weeks we’ll be engaging with local groups and would encourage residents to have a say too. The draft strategy is available online, and comments can be emailed through to us. We’ll also be talking with our employee networks and focus groups.”
Comments should be submitted by Sunday 6 March, then a final version of the strategy, taking into account the comments received, will be presented to Full Council for approval later this year.
