Report tells how Telford & Wrekin Council fights for Telford and Wrekin

Cabinet members at Telford and Wrekin Council have received and approved a report summarising findings from a recent peer challenge at their meeting this month.

Report tells how Telford & Wrekin Council fights for Telford and Wrekin

The report gives detailed feedback on the findings of a team of experts from the Local Government Association, who were invited to join the authority for four days over the summer to review how they operate.

The review was a robust and challenging process and the team spoke to over 130 key people –people who work for the council, our partner organisations, local businesses and Government departments.

Leader of the council, Shaun Davies, said: ““We invited the Local Government Association Peer Challenge Team to visit us in Telford & Wrekin as part of our commitment to delivering the best possible service for our residents.

“Although no overall grade is given for these reviews, it has identified the council as a high performing organisation that is constantly striving to deliver for local people.

“To quote the report – “Telford and Wrekin fights for Telford and Wrekin”. We are ambitious, we are proud and this external validation of our efforts is welcome.

“Following cabinet approval, we will take the feedback and recommendations in the report and continue to push forward with plans to protect, care and invest to create a better borough.”

The publication of the positive peer challenge report follows the council winning Co-operative Council of the Year in Co-op of the Year Awards and Council of the Year at the APSE 2021 Awards, as well as an outstanding children’s service judgement from Ofsted and Adult Social Care services being  considered ‘exceptional’ as part of their own peer challenge.

The full report can be found as part of cabinet papers on Telford & Wrekin Council’s website from 15 September 2021.
