£16m investment for Telford & Wrekin Council services
Telford & Wrekin Council has announced a massive investment of more than £16m into key areas, designed to help the borough bounce back from the pandemic.
The additional money will go towards projects that will make the borough cleaner, greener, safer and more enjoyable. This is on top of the £50m already going into neighbourhood and enforcement services.
Councillor Shaun Davies, leader at Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “At the start of the pandemic we said we would be with residents and business through the dark times and today I can announce we will also be with everyone thorough the brighter times that lie ahead.
“As we start to get back to a more normal way of life, I’m determined that we do this with renewed energy and this £16m+ investment is designed to do exactly that.
“We’ve listened carefully to what’s important to people who live in Telford and Wrekin and this additional money will support what matters to them. It will support our fight against climate change, enhance our precious green and open spaces and fund local community safety initiatives. We’re also putting more money into our high streets, parks and building on our brilliant events programme, as well as crucially making sure the borough is really clean for us all to enjoy.
“We are able to invest this extra funding due to our careful and sound financial management over the past few years. This puts us in a strong position to invest in our recovery from the pandemic and look ahead with great optimism.”
The extra £16m+ investment covers:
• £4m towards high streets, so they’re once again great places to meet, shop and do business
• £4m in our fight against climate change
• £2.5m on borough wide community safety projects
• £2m to enhance and protect green and open spaces
• £1.5m into community action teams, to keep local spaces cleaner and greener
• £1m into the borough parks
• £1m into more top quality events and activities
Councillor Davies added: “Over the past 18 months I’ve been overwhelmed by how everyone in Telford and Wrekin has pulled together. We can all agree we’ve been through some tough times.
“So this extra investment helps us to look forward together to better times ahead, as we protect, care and invest to create a better borough.”
