Localised Impact on Green bin Collections due to Covid-19 isolation rules
A number of areas in Telford and Wrekin may experience some disruption to green waste and recycling services this week, due to Covid-19 isolation rules affecting crews.
Staff including supervisors and office workers who also help on rounds, have been forced to isolate in line with Government guidance.
Crews are working hard and all available resources are being pulled together to keep disruption to a minimum.
The issue currently affects rounds of GREEN bin collections only.
Red top bins and food caddies will continue to be prioritised with collections continuing as normal.
What to do if your green bin is not collected
If your green bin for garden waste isn’t collected on your usual collection day, please return it to your property and present on your next scheduled GREEN bin collection day.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, Commercial Services and Regeneration, Councillor Lee Carter said: “This situation is completely out of our hands but that doesn’t mean we’re not doing everything we can to resolve it including using temporary agency staff and people from other contracts, services and partners such as Balfour Beatty. We’ve stretched resources as far as safely possible with minimum numbers of crews on rounds.
“We are hopeful of an announcement from Government to relax isolation rules allowing recycling and refuse crews to continue with collections. It’s the first time collections have been affected and we’re doing everything we can to ensure disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.
“We recognise how frustrating this will be for residents but it’s a national issue affecting councils up and down the country – in some areas green collections have been completely suspended with other waste services under increasing pressure.
“Residents have been incredibly supportive of crews throughout earlier waves of the pandemic as they maintained collections and we would ask for that same support until we resolve this issue.
“We are asking everyone to please bear with us while we continue to collect wherever possible.
“Red top and food caddies will continue to be prioritised with collections currently continuing as normal.”
Currently recycling and waste collection services and household recycling centres are operating with no significant disruption, and hope that this will continue to be the case over the coming weeks, though this will depend on staffing levels.
