A great day out for local community in Telford

A successful Armed Forces Families Day was held at Broadoaks playing fields, Donnington, Telford on Sunday 27 June.

The event, thefirst public event under Covid-19 restrictions for the council, was hosted bythe Events Team at Telford and Wrekin Council. An opportunity for the familiesof serving military personnel, cadets, reservists and veterans as well as thelocal community to come together and enjoy the entertainment provided.

 

Alongside liveentertainment that included songs from the 1930s and 1940s, the vintageAmerican army living display with tank, jeep and GIs provided a great draw aswell as the daredevil stunts of the BMX riders. The event was part of the ArmedForces Day activities that were taking place nationally over the weekend.

 

“The feedbackfrom people I spoke to throughout the day, both residents, partners andstall-holders was really positive, people were definitely pleased to be out andabout and there was a really good atmosphere.  As a council we weredelighted to be able to go ahead and put on this Covid-secure event, workingwith the restrictions required to keep everyone safe.

 

It was wonderfulto see people out, and enjoying this great event - there was such a lot of hardwork put into this and the team did a fantastic job in pulling it off” saidCllr Eileen Callear, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Visitor Economy


The first of a planned programme of events for 2021 and 2022 providing greatexperiences for residents of the borough, the council will be releasing furtherupdates in the coming months. In particular the first productions returning toThe Place – Telford in late July are a real boost for those missing a visit avisit to the theatre.
