Outdoor fitness classes now available

Telford & Wrekin Leisure have this week launched their first outdoor fitness classes as they begin to re-open facilities across the borough.

Outdoor fitness classes now available

The new outdoor classes take place in a safe, open space and provide a group fitness experience that many people have been missing over the lockdown period.

The outdoor timetable includes popular classes such as Body Combat, Body Attack and Grit, giving people the option to add some variety to their current home workout routines.

Councillor Eileen Callear, Telford & Wrekin’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Visitor Economy said: “We are very excited to be able to offer our residents the opportunity to take part in group exercise sessions in a safe, outdoor setting.

“Whilst we know many people have embraced online training out of necessity over the last 12 months, we also know that people are now looking for new challenges and inspiration in their workouts, and for many the prospect of being back with others to exercise brings new motivation.

“The outdoor classes have been hugely popular in the first week so we have already increased the capacity in each session to encourage more people to come along and take part.”

Sessions start from £5.15 on a pay as you go basis. You do not need to be an aspirations member to book. Session are inclusive for aspirations health and fitness members.

To keep in line with government guidelines and ensure that social distancing measures are in place, the outdoor classes take place on the netball courts at Phoenix Sport and Leisure Centre, allowing sufficient space for participants to exercise. Participants are required to bring along their own equipment such as matts and drinks bottles to avoid contamination.

All sessions take place at Phoenix Sports & Leisure Centre and will be running until Government restrictions allow for a full fitness timetable to resume which is expected around 17 May.

People are required to book sessions online and are available for booking 3 days in advance to allow instructors to manage capacity.

All classes are weather dependant and could be cancelled at short notice or during the session due to rain.
