Support available locally for completing Census 2021

Households and residents in Telford and Wrekin can get support locally from 1 March to help them complete the Census 2021.

Support available locally for completing Census 2021

The census is a national survey that happens every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

The next one will take place on Sunday 21 March 2021 known as Census Day and for the first time ever people are being asked to take part online.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) organises the census in partnership with local authorities.

All kinds of organisations, from local authorities to charities, use the information to help provide the services we all need, including transport, education and healthcare. Without the census, it would be much more difficult to do this.

From early March households will receive a postcard from the ONS with details of how to complete the census online.

Census support centres will also be operating from Monday 1 March at Park Lane Centre in Woodside and the Hub on the Hill.

Councillor Paul Watling, Cabinet Member for Co-Operative Communities, Engagement and Partnerships said: “The success of the Census 2021 is vital to Telford and Wrekin in order help the borough get the services needed now and in the future. The coronavirus pandemic means we need this up-to-date information to help shape vital services for the years to come more than ever.
“The census 2021 is online meaning it is very simple straightforward and safe to take part and taking around just 10 minutes to complete. However, we understand that some people may need support in completing the census which is why these support centres have been set up.

“We would urge households who have any questions or require support to get in touch with the team at Park Lane and the Hub on the Hill and they will be more than happy to help you.”

Due to the current situation the census support centres are providing support via telephone only. Both support centres are open between 9am and 5pm each day from 1 March.

To get support call the team at:
Park Lane Centre on 01952 683 700 or Hub on the Hill on 01952 898 052

Paper forms of the census are available for those people that are unable to complete the Census online.
