More local people in their 60s receive their vaccines

As the vaccination programme in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin continues to gather pace, more people in their 60s are being offered the vaccine. With over 85% of local people aged over 65 now vaccinated, people aged 64 and under are being lined up to be next to receive their vaccination.

More local people in their 60s receive their vaccines

Letters inviting everyone aged 65 to 69 went out a week ago, this week people aged 64 can book and invitations will be sent to everyone aged 60 and over, in the first week of March.

Cllr Leader Shaun Davies said:Following our extensive work with the NHS to support the vaccination rollout in our borough, over 98% of Telford and Wrekin residents over 70s have already had their first vaccination dose – which is brilliant news.

“With more priority groups recently being offered the vaccine, such as the unpaid carers and with the programme opening up for the over 60s (who can now book through the national booking system www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by calling 119) – we will continue to do absolutely all we can to get this vaccine to our residents.

“It’s their best defence against the virus and the best way they can protect their loved ones – so please, take-up the opportunity to be vaccinated, when you are offered it.”

Steve Ellis, Service Director, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Covid Vaccination Service said: “We’ve seen a very positive response from local people aged over 65 booking their appointments, so much so, that there are now just a small number of people in this group left to be vaccinated. We are asking them and anyone else older than 65 and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable who may not yet have been vaccinated, to book in as soon as they can.”

People aged 64 and over, who want to have their first dose should login to the national booking system at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119 free of charge, anytime between 7am and 11pm, seven days a week.

People over 60 will be asked to do the same and book in for their first jab, which will be available at one of the four vaccination centres or three pharmacies, delivering the vaccine in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

Everyone is encouraged to have their NHS number to hand to reduce the booking time.

To find your NHS number, visit: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/online-services/find-nhs-number

Anybody who chooses not to use the national booking system can still wait to be contacted by their local GP to offer them an appointment.
