First tenants get ready to move into Nuplace's specialist and adaptable homes

This winter Telford & Wrekin Council’s wholly owned housing company, Nuplace will see its first tenants move into specialist and adaptable homes at Maple Fields in Dothill.

The homes have been developed and specifically designed by building partner, Lovell, for people over the age of 55, or with a demonstrable need, to enable them to live independently and improve confidence in the home.

Reg, 80 and his wife Barbara, 75 from Dawley were one of the first couples to reserve a specialist property when they were announced earlier in the year.

After 18 years living in their semi-detached home, they told the Council how they can’t wait to move into their brand new detached bungalow before the end of the year.

After experiencing different health issues they had decided they needed to move into a bungalow, as using the stairs in their current home was becoming more and more difficult.

Reg comment: “We had considered moving home for a while when we heard about the new Maple Fields development by Nuplace. When we spotted they had bungalows and ground floor properties available we became very excited at the prospect of no longer having to struggle when using the stairs at home.

“After studying the site plan we knew we wanted a bungalow which was ideally wheelchair accessible and we finally decided the Birch was the property for us.

“Although we are yet to move in, the open plan living arrangements look great and the property looks extremely adaptable for our needs.  The fact that we have the option of installing a walk in shower is just the type of flexibility we need to make the home our own.”

Councillor David Wright said “These new, modern properties are providing fantastic long term homes for rent across Telford and Wrekin. We are delighted that Nuplace now offers specialist and adaptable homes which are available for those who need them – we hope this will enable and encourage people to continue living independently for longer in their own homes.”

The nineteen specialist and adaptable homes at Maple Fields have been designed to one of the following current Building Regulation standards:
• accessible and adaptable dwellings
• wheelchair user dwellings.
These properties come in different styles, but most importantly are easy to access and manage.
The homes are subject to Nuplace’s specialist housing policy. Specialist properties will be available in the first instance to those people who are over 55 or those who can demonstrate a need for an accessible or wheelchair property, allocated on a first applied for basis.
With just a few properties now remaining, more information on these homes can be found at www.nuplace.co.uk.
