Neighbourhood walkabouts in Haygate and St Georges, 9 October 2020
Today’s Neighbourhood Walkabouts were in Haygate and St Georges. Local councillors met us to walk us round and talk about their issues and concerns.
In Haygate, we met cllr Graham Cook on Haygate Road. His main concerns were around the surfaces of some roads and footpaths. A lot of surfacing issues were sorted as part of our recent £600k investment in the area a couple of years ago, but there are a few more that need attention.
Other jobs spotted on the walkabout were an overgrown alleyway at one end of Woodlands Drive which also had a fly tip, a tree causing problems on the corner of Hollies Road and Orleton Lane, a skew-whiff traffic light, an obscured street sign, two abandoned shopping trolleys at Grooms Alley play area and the surface of the bike track at the play area. All issues were logged as we walked round.
Other issues raised for looking at included traffic calming measures and a crossing on Haygate Road, plus ways of making the most of OD Murphy Field, which is a hidden gem with Green Guarantee status.
In St Georges, we were met by cllrs Richard Overton and David Wright at the church before heading out. Issues were raised around the surface of some roads and footpaths, including Snow Hill, Granville Street and Urban Villas. Jobs on West Street included relocation of a cycle rack and surfacing of the parking pull-ins. Issues with parking were logged for other streets too, including Canongate. A tree overhanging a footpath by The Timbers and steps by a bus stop were also logged
There were discussions over options for the dilapidated Women’s Institute building near the Albion Inn, underpass that leads to The Flash, the cement factory road which is a hotspot for fly tips and developer-owned land at The Timbers.
Both Haygate and St Georges were looking clean, tidy and much loved… so a shout out to our idverde and Balfour Beatty crews, and Roger who is the PET operative covering St Georges.
