Face coverings in shops to become mandatory

From Friday 24 July, it will be mandatory to wear a face covering when, in supermarkets and shops, using public transport and visiting a hospital.

Face coverings in shops to become mandatory

A ‘face covering’ is just something which safely covers the nose and mouth.

The face covering should feel comfortable and fit securely against the side of your face, and be secured to the head with ties or ear loops. You should also avoid touching the face covering while you are wearing it.

Remember

When wearing a face covering remember:

  • to wash or sanitise your hands when putting on, or removing your face covering.
  • disposable face covers need to be bagged and placed in your waste bin – NOT in your recycling bin!
  • Reusable face coverings should be washed regularly.Exemptions include young children, people with breathing difficulties and people living with a disability.

For further advice on face coverings and a full list of exemptions, please visit the Government website.
