High Streets Bounce-back Directory Heralds Shop Local Appeal
A new directory to showcase the best of Telford’s high streets is now live to celebrate the re-opening of shops and businesses as the borough battles back from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The project is part of theCouncil’s Pride In Our High Street initiative which promotes high streetlocations and businesses in town and district centres across the borough andseeks to attract more people to these.
Business owners on the high streetsof Dawley, Oakengates, Wellington, Ironbridge, Madeley and Newport are beinginvited to submit their details to feature in the directory so people can findout about their services - including any new services on offer in response tothe crisis.
The Coronavirus pandemic haschanged many people’s habits including how and where they shop.
The directory is part of theCouncil’s “shop and spend local” drive which highlights the need for people touse or lose the businesses and town centre facilities that are on theirdoorstep.
Councillor Lee Carter, CabinetMember with responsibility for regeneration said it was vital that communitysupport for local businesses continued as more re-open.
“Business support for communitiesacross the borough has been overwhelming. Many people have been working aroundthe clock to ensure the community is served during the pandemic.
“Business owners have quickly adaptedwith things like on-line ordering, home deliveries and collaborating with otherbusinesses to offer a one-stop-shop,” he said.
“Some businesses didn’t have awebsite before and quickly invested in this so they could still sell theirproducts or services.
“As more and more firms’ doorsre-open, we need to remember how much our local businesses did for us.
Now more than ever, we need tosupport them and work together to make sure that our high streets not onlysurvive but thrive; because they are the heartbeat of the community and we mustall do whatever we can to keep them going.
“It’s our duty to get out andsupport them because without bustling high streets the borough would be a muchless attractive place”
