Food Bank supported by Veolia

A Telford food bank charity is now able to transport perishable goods from shops to people in need, thanks to a £5,000 donation from Veolia.

Food Bank supported by Veolia

Telford Crisis Support collects items donated by the public from shops, and distributes them to those in need through a referral scheme.

The charity has seen an increase in people seeking support - in April it supplied 13,347 meals to 1,483 people - many as a result of financial instability caused by the Covid-19 situation. In contrast, in December it distributed 5,607 meals to 623 people.

Veolia, the UK’s leading resource management company, is the recycling and waste contractor for Telford & Wrekin Council. The donation is part of the added value element of the waste contract.

Teresa Roe of Telford Crisis Support said: “We are expecting the numbers of people requiring support to increase further in the coming weeks and months, which is why we are so thankful for the support from Veolia. This will enable us to feed more individuals and families who might otherwise go without a healthy meal.”

Steve Mitchell, Director - Veolia West, said: “Veolia is committed to giving added value to the local communities we work in. We’re very pleased to be supporting Telford Crisis Support Foodbank to help people in need.”

Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member responsible for Neighbourhood Services, said: “This donation will be a real help to this vital charity at what is a very difficult time for many. It just goes to show why the added value element of the contracts we secure are so important. Our heartfelt thanks go to Veolia for their continued support.”
