Are you a Climate Change Champion?
On World Environment Day, Telford & Wrekin Council has announced its latest volunteering position.
In time for National Volunteers’ Week, the Council is recruiting volunteers to be Climate Change Champions.
The Champions will promote climate change and sustainability to their local communities.
They will share information, take part in events, lead by example, and encourage people in their communities, schools and groups to give their views and get involved.
Champions will already be passionate about the subject and will want to learn more about current global issues, as well as how they affect the borough on a local level.
This role is suitable for all ages, and would be ideal for families to do together, we just ask that under 18s have parental consent before signing up as a volunteer.
Cllr Carolyn Healy, cabinet member for Visitor Economy, Historic and Natural Environment, and Climate Change said:
“Nearly a year ago, the Council declared a climate emergency and work has been ongoing since then to meet the challenge in Telford and Wrekin.
“Now we want our residents to get involved and work with us.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone who is already enthusiastic about making a difference and tackling climate change.
“This week we’re recognising all the amazing volunteers who are already helping to improve their local environment, from Street Champions to ‘Friends of’ groups, and it’s great to be launching the new Climate Change Champion role as another way for people to help make the borough a greener place as part of National Volunteers Week.
“I look forward to working with the Climate Change Champions and hearing their ideas for how we can do more in the borough.”
